How to Use Summarize

3.1 Upload Your Document

‍

File upload:

Click "Upload your document" or drag and drop

Supported formats:** PDF, DOCX, TXT, XLSX, CSV, XLS, PPTX, EML, MSG

File size limit:** Up to 50MB per document

OCR:** Scanned documents are automatically processed

One document at a time**

‍

Text input:

Switch to "Text" tab to paste content directly

Use when: OCR quality is poor, working with excerpts, or document won't upload

Better processing than poorly scanned documents

‍

3.2 Anonymize Document

Check "Anonymize document" to remove or redact identifying information from the summary.

‍

What gets anonymized:

Names of individuals and entities

Addresses and locations

Specific identifiers (case numbers, account numbers, dates of birth)

‍

When to use anonymization:

Client-facing summaries where confidentiality is required

Summaries for training or knowledge sharing

Documents being shared outside your team

Public filings or submissions

‍

Important: Anonymization is AI-assisted and not perfect. Always review the output manually to verify all sensitive information has been removed. You remain professionally responsible for protecting confidential information.

‍

3.3 Additional Instructions

Use this field to focus the summary on specific areas, highlight key provisions, or tailor output to your target audience.

‍

What to specify:

Scope: Which sections or provisions to focus on

Audience: Who will read this (client, colleague, executive)

Format: How to structure the output (table, timeline, bullet points, prose)

Priorities: What matters most (risks, obligations, deadlines)

‍

Examples of effective instructions:

For contract summaries:

"Focus on liability and indemnification provisions"

"Extract all payment terms, delivery obligations, and warranties. Create a table."

"Summarize data processing terms only. Flag GDPR compliance issues."

‍

For court decisions:

"Summarize for client update: (1) holdings, (2) implications, (3) next steps. Use non-legal language."

"Extract the court's reasoning on the duty of care issue only."

"Create executive summary focusing on financial implications."

‍

For case materials:

"Create chronological timeline of all events from January 2020 to present."

"Summarize witness statements focusing on disputed facts."

"Extract all deadlines and obligations. Organize by party."
